valima ( Arabic : وليمة , romanized : valīma ), or the wedding reception banquet , is the second of the two traditional parts of an Islamic wedding. The v alima is performed after the nikah ( Arabic : نكاح ) or marriage ceremony. It designates a feast in Arabic . The v alima is used as a symbol to show domestic happiness in the household post-marriage. As per sharia , the valima only takes place where the groom resides (which is also the new location for the bride).
