36-436: Like many edge cities, Perimeter was farmland until the late 1960s. In 1970, Taylor & Mathis and financial partner MetLife began development of Perimeter in north Atlanta. Over the next 25 years, Perimeter evolved into one of the largest and most successful master-planned office and mixed-use developments in the U.S. At Perimeter, Taylor & Mathis developed 31 office buildings containing 3,240,300 SF as well as Park Place,

In addition, Taylor & Mathis ground leased 20 acres in the park for various commercial uses, including branch banks, hotels and free-standing restaurants. Approximately 100 acres was sold to The Rouse Company in 1971 for the development of the 1.3 million SF Perimeter Mall, and the balance of the land was sold over

108-588: A common public-safety answering point operated by ChatComm , which then dispatches the appropriate city or county emergency services based on the location. The area is home not only to the strip malls that are typically built near major indoor malls, but also many office parks that contain high-rise office buildings , including skyscrapers that house the world headquarters of United Parcel Service (UPS), AT&T Mobility , Cox Enterprises , Haverty's and Newell Rubbermaid . The King and Queen Towers, formally known as Concourse at Landmark Center , are

144-430: Is 28.4% of all agricultural land (10.9% of global land area), and permanent crops (e.g. vineyards and orchards ) are 3.1% (1.2% of global land area). In 2021, the global agricultural land area was 4.79 billion hectares (ha), down 2 percent, or 0.09 billion ha compared with 2000. One-third of the total agricultural land was cropland (1.58 billion ha in 2021), which increased by 6 percent (0.09 billion ha). Asia had

180-577: Is as little as €1,500–2,000 (£1,260–1,680) per hectare (ha) (£1,260–1,680). This is comparatively inexpensive. Poor-quality farmland in France and Spain is sold at no lower than €10,000/ha. The average Russian farm measures 150 hectares (370 acres). The most prevalent crops in Russia are wheat , barley , corn , rice , sugar beet , soy beans , sunflower , potatoes and vegetables . Russian farmers harvested roughly 85–90 million tonnes of wheat annually in

216-489: Is generally synonymous with both farmland or cropland , as well as pasture or rangeland . The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and others following its definitions, however, also use agricultural land or agricultural area as a term of art , where it means the collection of: This sense of "agricultural land" thus includes a great deal of land not devoted to agricultural use. The land actually under annually-replanted crops in any given year

252-413: Is instead said to constitute sown land or cropped land . "Permanent cropland" includes forested plantations used to harvest coffee , rubber , or fruit but not tree farms or proper forests used for wood or timber . Land able to be used for farming is called cultivable land . Farmland, meanwhile, is used variously in reference to all agricultural land, to all cultivable land, or just to

288-634: Is protected so that it can be farmed without any threat of development. The Agricultural Land Reserve in British Columbia in Canada , for instance, requires approval from its Agricultural Land Commission before its lands can be removed or subdivided. Under the FAO 's definitions above, agricultural land covers 38.4% of the world's land area as of 2011. Permanent pastures are 68.4% of all agricultural land (26.3% of global land area), arable land (row crops)

324-621: The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the U.S. State of Georgia in the Atlanta metropolitan area . The area codes are assigned in an overlay plan to a combined numbering plan area (NPA) consisting of 404 (Atlanta and its suburbs inside Interstate 285 ) and 770 (Atlanta suburbs and exurbs outside of I-285). Telephone numbers in area code 678 were first assigned to customers signing up for new telephone service on January 15, 1998. On September 2, 2001, area code 470,

360-572: The Sandy Springs and North Springs stations in 2000. Perimeter was a focal point for the incorporation of Sandy Springs in 2005 and Dunwoody in 2008, with Brookhaven incorporating the remainder (southward from the Dunwoody city limit at I-285) in 2012. While DeKalb County threatened to sue Dunwoody over the inclusion of Perimeter and its large tax base in the new city, the lawsuit never came to fruition. Perimeter spans two counties , DeKalb to

396-716: The interchange of two major freeways : the north/south Georgia 400 , and the "top end" of the Interstate 285 beltway , "the Perimeter" for which the Mall and the area around it were named. Perimeter is connected to Buckhead, Midtown and downtown Atlanta via MARTA . MARTA's Red Line has three stations in the area: Dunwoody in DeKalb County , which services Perimeter Mall , Sandy Springs station in Fulton County, located under one of

432-654: The jurisdictional split through the district does not cause numbering discontinuities in street addresses . Despite being common throughout the rest of the metro area, the only major street to change names is Abernathy Road in Fulton, now named Perimeter Center West in DeKalb. In 1995, Perimeter left area code 404 along with all other telephone exchanges roughly outside I-285, joining area code 770 , with newer numbers being area code 678 or most recently 470. All three cities (plus Johns Creek ) route emergency calls to 9-1-1 to

468-521: The new provider . Kennesaw State opted to use 470-578 (KSU) as their number prefix for the new phone numbers, outside of the normal geographical calling area for Kennesaw; 470-578 numbers are based in Atlanta Northeast and Kennesaw State is located in the Atlanta Northwest calling area. The entire metro Atlanta region with area codes 404, 770, 678, 470, and 943 is a local calling area, one of

576-670: The United States of America (10 percent) and China (8 percent). Cropland area per capita decreased in all regions between 2000 and 2021 as population increased faster than the cropland area. The world average declined by 18 percent to 0.20 ha per capitain 2021; the decrease was the largest in Africa (−25 percent, to0.21 ha per capita), followed by the Americas and Asia (−17 percent each,to 0.37 ha per capita and 0.13 ha per capita, respectively), Europe and Oceania (−7 percent each, to 0.39 haper capita and 0.77 ha per capita, respectively). The countries with

612-483: The busiest intersections in the area, and the line's northern terminus at North Springs , servicing the Georgia 400. A further extension that has been studied but not planned is up the 400 corridor to Alpharetta , the location of another edge city about 10 miles (16 km) or 16 kilometers to the north-northeast. The Atlanta Regional Commission has this in long-term plans, along with an east/west light rail route along

684-470: The cropland area of Africa overtook that of Europe in 2018. Approximately 30 percent of global cropland and permanent meadows and pastures can be found in three countries. In 2021, 12 percent of global permanent meadows and pastures belonged to China, 10 percent to Australia, and 8 percent to the United States of America. For the same year, the largest share of global cropland was in India (11 percent), followed by

792-423: The health-care mecca of Atlanta, with three hospitals, hundreds of physician practices, multiple outpatient centers and support services making it a premier location for medical practices. Pill Hill has grown exponentially since it began taking shape in the late 1960s when Scottish Rite , which was previously a children’s convalescent home, expanded into a full-fledged medical center in 1965. Northside Hospital became

828-672: The highest croplandarea per capita are Kazakhstan, Australia and Canada, due to vast areas of land available. Globally, the total amount of permanent pasture according to the FAO has been in decline since 1998, in part due to a decrease of wool production in favor of synthetic fibers (such as polyester) and cotton . The decrease of permanent pasture, however, does not account for gross conversion (e.g. land extensively cleared for agriculture in some areas, while converted from agriculture to other uses elsewhere) and more detailed analyses have demonstrated this. For example, Lark et al. 2015 found that in

864-639: The largest customer using area code 470 is Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw , which was forced to change hundreds of telephone numbers when the Georgia Board of Regents forced schools in the University System of Georgia to implement internal telephone systems , and the FCC failed to make local number portability applicable to businesses and government, allowing AT&T to refuse KSU to take its numbers to

900-514: The largest share of the global cropland area in 2021 (37 percent), followedby the Americas (24 percent), Africa (19 percent), Europe (18 percent) and Oceania (2 percent). There were differences in cropland expansion in the different regions during this period – Oceania and Africa both had rapid growth in cropland area (33 percent and 27 percent), while Asia and the Americas had more moderate growth (4 percent and 2 percent). The cropland area of Europe declined between 2000 and 2021 by 5 percent. As aresult,

936-416: The market reduces. Landholders then put more land on the market – causing prices to fall. Conversely, land prices/rents fall when the demand for agricultural land declines because of falls in the returns from holding and using it. The immediate triggers for falls in land demand might be reductions in the demand for farm produce or in relevant government subsidies and tax reliefs. The cost of Russian farmland

972-563: The most recognizable structures due to the artistic structures that top them. Perimeter Place, a shopping area that emulates a town center rather than a typical strip mall, contains the Manhattan, Perimeter's first high-rise condominium tower. Pill Hill — nicknamed for its cluster of hospitals and doctors’ offices — is located near the intersection of Georgia 400 and Interstate 285, on the Sandy Springs side of Perimeter. Pill Hill has become

1008-479: The mutual city limits at the county line and I-285, respectively. Because incorporation occurred well after the establishment of the codes, all four still default to "Atlanta" when doing a reverse lookup. However, USPS systems now consider the correct city names to be acceptable, and "Sandy Springs" acceptable for all except 30346. Addresses in all of Fulton and most of DeKalb, including all of Perimeter, are based on an origin at Five Points in downtown Atlanta, so

1044-428: The newly restricted sense of "arable land". Depending upon its use of artificial irrigation , the FAO's "agricultural land" may be divided into irrigated and non-irrigated land. In the context of zoning , agricultural land or agriculturally-zoned land refers to plots that are permitted to be used for agricultural activities, without regard to its present use or even suitability. In some areas, agricultural land

1080-528: The opening of the mall just a few years after the freeway, Perimeter was developed though office parks constructed adjacent to the mall, including the Ravinia and Concourse complexes in the 1980s. A long-fought southward extension of Georgia 400 in 1993 provided a direct highway link to Buckhead . A MARTA train connection was established with the opening of the Dunwoody and Medical Center stations in 1996, and

1116-402: The two counties to improve the area. While legally separate, they work together as a single entity. The core of Perimeter has its own ZIP code , 30346, which covers the southwest corner of Dunwoody. To the north and east, the remainder of the city is 30338, with 30328 to the west for most of Sandy Springs, and 30319 to the south for nearly all of Brookhaven. Their boundaries with 30346 follow

The average yield from the Krasnodar region was between 4 and 5 tonnes per ha, while the Russian average was only 2t/ha. The Basic Element Group , a conglomerate owned by Oleg Deripaska , is one of Russia's leading agricultural producers, and owns or manages 109,000ha of Russian farmland, out of 90m actual and 115m total (0.12% actual). In 1971, Perimeter Mall opened, constructed on a former cow pasture and debuting as the seventh regional mall in metro Atlanta. Perimeter Mall was named after the 64-mile (103 km) long Interstate 285 which circles Atlanta’s perimeter, and at one time was the edge of Atlanta’s suburban extent. Since

1224-598: Was added to the 678 overlay area of area codes 404 and 770. Telephone numbers from the NPA were assigned after exhaustion of area code 678. In October of 2020, the Georgia Public Service Commission approved the creation of a new overlay area code after NANPA exhaustion analyses projected shortfall of central office prefixes by the second quarter of 2023. NANPA assigned area code 943 for relief, which commenced service on March 15, 2022. Although ten-digit dialing

1260-480: Was ranked third in corn production and sixth in wheat production. It was the main supplier of corn , wheat , and rape to Europe, although it is unclear whether the internal supply from countries like France were accounted in this calculation. Ukrainian farmers achieve 60% of the output per unit area of their North American competitors. UkrLandFarming PLC produces, from 650,000 hectares (1.6m acres), corn, wheat, barley, sugar beet, and sunflowers. Until 2014,

1296-680: Was used in the Atlanta area since area code 770 was introduced in 1995, it was not until January 1, 1998, when 678 was implemented, that ten-digit dialing finally became required across the entire metro area. All central office prefixes of area code 404 are assigned to service providers, the last having been issued in October 2013. Prefixes in 678 and 770 have also all been allocated, leaving only 470 central office codes available, although previously-used numbers are always available for reassignment to new customers. Despite existing for decades before this change,
