John Daniel Mallee (pronounced "MAY lee"; born May 5, 1969) is an American professional baseball coach and former player. He is the current assistant hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball (MLB). As an MiLB player, Mallee was a shortstop and second baseman . He has previously been the hitting coach of the Florida Marlins , Houston Astros , Chicago Cubs , and Philadelphia Phillies .
