The season uses footage and other material from the 30th Super Sentai series GoGo Sentai Boukenger , which celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of that franchise. In addition, this season's team-up episode, "Once a Ranger", commemorates the fifteenth anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise. The season premiered on February 26, 2007, on Toon Disney 's Jetix programming block. It was the first season to use 16:9 widescreen footage from the Super Sentai franchise, although this footage was scaled down & cropped to 4:3 aspect ratio until Samurai.
31-455: Unique among Power Ranger series, Operation Overdrive has the Rangers exploring, operating and fighting in many different countries around the world, rather than focusing only on their home city of San Angeles . The early working title for the series was Power Rangers Drive Force , but was later changed to "Relic Hunters" and then "Operation Overdrive" In early pre-production, on July 26, 2006,
62-487: A biography, or rather hagiography, of Sierra Tierwater, his daughter, who died in 2001 as a martyr to the environmentalist cause (falling out of a tree in old growth woodland in which she had been living for about three years). In the course of the next few months the situation deteriorates even more. The rain and the wind destroy the animals' cages, and subsequently they have to be kept in Pulchris's basement. One morning one of
93-489: A discussion of the political situation, but there are various hints hidden in the text which tell us that the social security system has crumbled and that many older Americans are left to their own devices, without a regular income, many of them seemingly even without a roof over their heads. A Friend of the Earth is the story of Tyrone O'Shaughnessy Tierwater, a U.S. citizen born in 1950, half Irish Catholic and half Jewish ("I'm
124-477: A mess and I know it. Jewish guilt, Catholic guilt, enviro-eco-capitalistico guilt: I can't even expel gas in peace."), whose personal tragedy fits in with, and adds to, the gloomy atmosphere created in the novel. Egged on by Andrea, the woman he loves, he becomes a committed "Earth Forever!" activist (an allusion to the radical environmental group Earth First! ) in the 1980s, is imprisoned for ecotage , but eventually cannot change anything. On top of that, he suffers
155-562: A new Evil Alliance. When they overwhelm the Overdrive Rangers, their connection to the Morphing Grid is severed, and their powers are destroyed. With the gems still needing protecting, Sentinel Knight assembles a team of replacement Rangers, made up of previous (or future) teams of Power Rangers. No longer having Ranger powers, the former Overdrive Rangers return to their civilian lives. All but Mack, who learns of Thrax's plans to destroy
186-471: Is now a fact with life expectancy having climbed to over the 100-year mark. Consequently, the world is massively overpopulated . In the US, what used to be unspoiled nature is now residential areas, with condominiums having sprung up everywhere. Inside these condos, people who do not care about the environment live their lives in front of their computers and televisions. At no point in the novel does Boyle enter into
217-464: The lions gets loose and attacks and kills the singer, as well as a number of employees. As a consequence, the other lions are shot—and thus lions as a species become extinct. (There is just one surviving lion in the San Diego Zoo left.) Jobless and penniless, Tierwater, who has fallen in love all over again with Andrea, is evicted from the estate by Pulchris's heirs. Along with Andrea, Tyrone leaves
248-553: The Corona Aurora, a mighty crown that could be used for good or evil when reunited with its five missing jewels. However, he inadvertently awakens Moltor and Flurious, who also seek the crown's jewels. Hartford recruits four talented but unwilling citizens to become Power Rangers, and he plans to become the Red Ranger. However, when the evil forces attack, it is soon left to Andrew's son Mack to take action. The Rangers try to translate
279-645: The Mexican border. In 2002, environmentalist and commentator Tershia d'Elgin described a then-recent federal district court ruling on the Endangered Species Act of 1973 related to paving over land as promising "to transform our county into El Toro too. Everything that has made San Diego worth living in will be gone. It will become San Angeles." That same year, the 2002 political movement to have San Fernando Valley seceded from Los Angeles to become an independent incorporated city of its own suggested San Angeles as
310-531: The Octavian Chalice's power and mix the different ingredients need to create Agrios. Agrios severely damages the Megazords in battle. Meanwhile after a battle with Kamdor and Miratrix, Tyzonn is knocked unconscious and awakes on his home planet with his fiance. The Rangers retrieve the fifth jewel from the sarcophagus. However, they're immediately ambushed by Flurious, the only villain left, and he manages to take
341-464: The San Angeles concept to describe how Google might modify its home page: We're still not ready to make really fundamental changes and blast all of our products on our home page. [But] there are a few key concepts I've been thinking about in terms of how we can change navigation on our site. One is what I would call the San Angeles or Los Diego strategy. You take large product and merge them together into

Meanwhile, their replacements, the team of Returning Rangers, head to Angel Grove to seek out the only being capable of repairing the Morphing Grid: Alpha 6. 403-462: The areas of Los Angeles to San Diego and sometimes even San Bernardino to Riverside . Although Los Angeles and the West Coast have been treated as a futuristic concept geographic region by different names in other works — "Los Andiegoles" in the novel A Friend of the Earth , "Rattown" in the novel Dr. Adder , and "Mega City 2" in the comic stories of Judge Dredd ; San Angeles remains
434-438: The biggest possible nucleus. So if you took San Diego and Los Angeles together and merged them into one mega-city, that's even bigger and more memorable than the two cities independently... It is hard for people to remember more than 5 or 10 products from a particular company. If we can take each of the products we have and make them even larger and more meaningful to people, I think there’s a lot of benefit that could be had by both
465-458: The compound, heading for a mountain cabin owned by Earth Forever! somewhere in the forest which decades ago served as a hideout. They arrive there with only one of Pulchris's animals in tow: Petunia, the Patagonian fox , which they now keep as their domestic animal, passing it off as their dog. In the final scene of the book, a teenaged girl comes hiking along the trail where the forest surrounding
496-463: The dilapidated cabin would have been. Tierwater and Andrea, who again call themselves husband and wife now, have a glimmer of hope that life will soon be like life 30 years before, as the novel ends on an optimistic note. Major themes discussed and referred to throughout the book include the effects of climate change and reduction of biodiversity. There are implicit references to Christianity throughout. Maclovio Pulchris' animal menagerie seems to be
527-526: The dry season, it is unbearably hot. Helpful medicines have been found in the rainforest , including cures for cancer . Deforestation has occurred for two reasons: (a) the storms, which have uprooted whole forests; and, (b) the timber industry's limitless destruction of primeval forests all over the world, including the tropical rainforest. On top of it all, modern science has invented many artificial ways to prolong human life (for example, there are TV ads for organ transplants ), and longevity among humans
558-566: The etchings made light of the cultural distance between Northern California and Southern California. Ruscha's concept Los Francisco San Angeles was analyzed in 2004 for Arts & Activities Magazine by Tara Cady Sartorius, Curator of Education at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts . San Angeles is also the fictional home town of the main characters in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive . There's also San Angeles in
589-621: The fictional Arnold Schwarzenegger Presidential Museum in San Angeles, even though Arnold Schwarzenegger's first run for political office would not be for another ten years. In 2000, the Icebox.com live-action Web series "The Hanged Man" positioned fictional detective Hugo Manes as being from the San Angeles Police Department. In 2001, American printmaker Edward Ruscha released a series of seven postcard-size color etchings that he entitled "Los Francisco San Angeles" to reflect how
620-504: The flora has also considerably suffered. Many foods, including beef , eggs , beer , etc., are no longer readily available. Instead, rice is grown everywhere, and sake is the only alcoholic beverage available. Other vegetables are grown in domed fields. El Niño has become an everyday companion of the inhabitants of the United States : strong winds are continuously blowing, and there is heavy rainfall for several months every year. In
651-451: The four jewels that the Rangers possess. Now with all five jewels and the crown, Flurious plans to reassemble the Corona Aurora and unleash his wrath upon the world. But Flurious makes a big mistake by not destroying Mack earlier when he had the chance, leading to his destruction. San Angeles San Angeles is a fictional futuristic concept of Southern California typically configured by U.S. commentators and film producers to include

She and a friend of hers, April Wind, move in with Tierwater, officially for April Wind to write

Maclovio Pulchris, the singer, has had the idea of preserving some of
775-409: The more popular identifying description. San Angeles was first conceived as a setting for the 1982 movie Blade Runner in an early script. Ten years later, the 1993 script for the 1994 movie Double Dragon , post-earthquake California merged Los Angeles and San Diego into one megalopolis called San Angeles, half of which was under water. At about the same time, the San Angeles concept city also

Mack discovers that one of the monsters, an alien named Tyzonn, may not be evil and tries to figure out the truth behind his actions. The Rangers attempt to stop them only to find their paths crossing with Tyzonn again. Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa's son, Thrax, unites all four Corona Aurora-seeking villain factions into
837-456: The potential new name for the proposed incorporated city. However, "San Angeles" ranked ninth in popularity behind the name "San Fernando Valley" in a field of eleven potential names. Along with the proposed "Los Fernando", "San Angeles" was viewed as an absurd juxtaposition which made no sense at all in Spanish. In 2006, Marissa Mayer , Google 's then 31-year-old product-launch czar, seized on
868-690: The series' logo was posted on a fan message board called "Fuñaroboard." This same logo was later featured on the Disney website, RangerSecrets.com, as part of the preview for the series. The logo is very similar to that of the parent series Boukenger in the basic design and format. On November 14, 2006, Disney had set up its official website for Power Rangers Operation Overdrive . Five brave, skilled, and adventurous individuals - Mack Hartford, Will Aston, Dax Lo, Ronny Robinson, and Rose Ortiz - are chosen and genetically enhanced by billionaire adventurer and Mack's father Andrew Hartford to become Power Rangers and travel
899-515: The television series, Sliders , in the episode called " Double Cross ", where the city spreads from San Francisco to Los Angeles . In addition to uses of San Angeles by the entertainment industry, political causes and businesses alike have adopted the concept. For example, in April 1989, Camp Pendleton was viewed as the last remaining open-space barrier against a future "San Angeles" composed of Southern California boom and sprawl from Santa Barbara to
930-444: The users, because they don’t have to remember quite as much. A Friend of the Earth A Friend of the Earth is a 2000 novel by T.C. Boyle . The novel is a story of environmental destruction set in 2025; as a result of global warming and the greenhouse effect , the climate has drastically changed, and, accordingly, biodiversity is a thing of the past. Due to habitat loss , many animal species have become extinct , but
961-470: Was used in the 1993 movie Demolition Man , where the earthquake-destroyed Los Angeles of 2010 was replaced by the city San Angeles that stretched from San Diego to Santa Barbara. The Demolition Man/San Angeles, a modified Irvine, California , set in the year 2032, maintained a police force called "SaPD" (for San Angeles Police Department), which used black and white, gull-winged cars having SaPD emblazoned on them. The 1993 Demolition Man movie also set
