Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate ( Arabic : محافظة مبارك الكبير , IPA: [Muḥāfaẓat Mubārak al-Kabīr] ) is one of the governorates of Kuwait which mainly houses residential areas of Kuwait City . It was formed in 27 November 1999 when the Hawalli Governorate was split in two, and was formerly called Qurain Governorate. It was named after Mubarak Al-Sabah , the seventh ruler of the Sheikhdom of Kuwait .
