Chart rulership has changed over time due to the discovery of previously unknown planets. In classic astrology , Mars , Venus , Mercury , Jupiter , and Saturn were the only planets visible to the naked eye and ruled the astrological signs along with the Sun and Moon . While astrologers are aware that the Sun and Moon themselves are not planets, they are often grouped as such due to their movement around the Earth (since birth charts are mapped from the perspective of a person's position on Earth). The Sun and Moon are also referred to as luminaries and each have their own significance in horoscopic astrology alongside their roles as planets. The Sun, Moon, and aforementioned observable planets are known as the classic or ancient rulers are still used by some astrologers today.

104-457: After the discovery of Uranus , Neptune , and Pluto starting in the 18th century, chart rulership was adjusted to include these previously unobserved planets accordingly. Today all eight planets, as well as the Sun and Moon, are commonly attributed in chart rulership. Some astrologers also include Ceres as a newly discovered dwarf planet , however, consensus has not yet been reached on its position as

208-452: A fractal -like fashion, and as above, so below . Therefore, the patterns that the planets make in the sky reflect the ebb and flow of basic human impulses. The planets are also associated, especially in the Chinese tradition, with the basic forces of nature. Listed below are the specific meanings and domains associated with the astrological planets since ancient times, with the main focus on

312-444: A chart ruler. The modern interpretation of chart rulers is most often used though some astrologers will use both classical and modern rulers for reference when interpreting an individual's natal chart. Often in this case the inner planets (Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter) will be referenced as a chart's primary ruler while the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) become a secondary ruler. The inner planets refer to planets visible to

416-402: A form of self enlightenment. Jupiter for example is the planet that represents generosity and tolerance. Therefore, if the ruling planet in the first house was Jupiter, an individual would have an altruistic approach to life and generally approach new situations in a kind and benevolent manner. Jupiter in the sixth house would indicate an individual with an honest approach to their work and perhaps

520-496: A male and a female Titan with each planet, Cronus and Rhea with Saturn, Eurymedon and Themis with Jupiter, probably Crius and Dione with Mars, Hyperion and Theia with the Sun, Atlas and Phoebe with the Moon, Coeus and Metis with Mercury, and Oceanus and Tethys with Venus. These planetary correspondences are linked to the ancient Greek myth of Eurynome as noted by Robert Graves . The qualities inherited from

624-507: A mythical sage named Hermes Trismegistus . Hermes is said to have written several major texts which formed the basis of the art or its evolution from the system of astrology that was inherited from the Babylonians and the Egyptians . Several authors cite Hermes as being the first to outline the houses and their meaning, and thus the houses are usually thought to date back to the very beginning of

728-503: A palm, the symbols of astrology. He must have the astrological books of Hermes, which are four in number, always in his mouth. The conquest of Asia by Alexander the Great exposed the Greeks to the cultures and cosmological ideas of Syria , Babylon , Persia and central Asia . Greek overtook cuneiform script as the international language of intellectual communication and part of this process

832-418: A person's birthday therefore determines what is usually called their "sun" sign. However, the sun sign allotment varies between Western (sign change around 22-23 of every month) and Hindu astrology (sign change around 14-15 of every month) due to the different systems of planetary calculations, following the tropical and sidereal definitions respectively. In astrology, the Sun is usually thought to represent

936-451: A person's sense of duty, commitment, responsibility, including their physical and emotional endurance in times of hardships. Saturn is fundamentally economical. It also represents concern with long-term planning or foresight. The Return of Saturn is said to mark significant events in each person's life. According to the 1st-century poet Manilius, Saturn is sad, morose, and cold, and is the greater malefic . Claudius Ptolemy states that "Saturn

1040-459: A slightly different place each day, is therefore in reality a reflection of the Earth's own orbit around the Sun. This arc is larger the farther north or south from the equator latitude, giving a more extreme difference between day and night and between seasons during the year. The Sun travels through the twelve signs of the zodiac on its annual journey, spending about a month in each. The Sun's position on

1144-400: A tendency to help others who are less fortunate. Planets in each of these houses in turn will be influenced by an individual's chart ruler. Leo, for example, has several planets which are ruled by the sun, Leo's chart ruler. As such, the application of chart rulership in astrology becomes a fairly complicated process. The ten astrological planets are expressed through different qualities within

1248-413: A total of 7 planets. The ancient Babylonians, Greeks, Persians, Romans, Medieval Christians, and others thought of the 7 classical planets as gods and named their 7 days of the week after them. Astrologers retain this definition of the 7 classical planets today. To ancient astrologers, the planets represented the will of the deities and their direct influence upon human affairs. To modern astrologers,

1352-508: Is a planet that rules another planet. To illustrate this, consider the planets in Cancer , which the Moon rules. Planets in this sign look to the Moon for guidance concerning how they should express themselves. Ruler planets are considered to impose form and structure on the expression of the planets being ruled. Dispositor trees display how the planets in the chart relate to each other based on these rulerships. By using this type of diagram, uncovering

1456-565: Is a tradition of horoscopic astrology that was developed and practiced in the late Hellenistic period in and around the Mediterranean Basin region, especially in Egypt . The texts and technical terminology of this tradition of astrology were largely written in Greek (or sometimes Latin ). The tradition originated sometime around the late 2nd or early 1st century BCE, and then was practiced until

1560-423: Is associated for some with the mother or the urge to nurture, the home, the need for security and the past, especially early experiences and childhood. The 1st-century poet Manilius described the Moon, or Luna , as melancholic. In medicine, the Moon is associated with the digestive system, stomach, breasts, the ovaries and menstruation (which occurs on a monthly cycle) and the pancreas. Despite Manilius's assignment,

1664-422: Is associated with the nervous system, the brain, the respiratory system, the thyroid and the sense organs. It is traditionally held to be essentially cold and dry, according to its placement in the zodiac and in any aspects to other planets. In modern astrology, Mercury is regarded as the ruler of the third house; traditionally, it had the joy in the first house. Mercury is the messenger of the gods in mythology. It

1768-483: Is exalted in Scorpio ♏️. In classical Greek mythology, Uranus is the personification of the sky. The planet Uranus is unusual among the planets in that it rotates on its side so that it presents each of its poles to the Sun in turn during its orbit; causing both hemispheres to alternate between being bathed in light and lying in total darkness over the course of the orbit. Hellenistic astrology Hellenistic astrology

1872-424: Is in its fall or downhearted and in shame. The four classical elements also matter in chart rulership. For the past two decades there have been questions regarding the way that the elements got assigned to specific zodiac signs. The history of the elements and signs is that Vettius Vallen , a Hellenistic astrologer, was one of the first to introduce this idea yet never explicitly said so. Valen isn't believed to be

1976-525: Is large enough for its gravity to affect the Earth, stabilizing its orbit and producing the regular ebb and flow of the tides. The lunar day syncs up with its orbit around Earth in such a manner that the same side of the Moon always faces the Earth and the other side, known as the " far side of the Moon " faces toward space. In astrology, the Moon is associated with a person's intuition, emotions, unconscious habits, rhythms, memories, moods, instincts and their ability to react and adapt to those around them. It

2080-441: Is lord of the right ear, the spleen, the bladder, the phlegm, and the bones." Saturn symbolized processes and things that were dry and cold, which are necessary balancing aspects to maintain life. It governs the melancholic humor. According to Sefer Yetzirah – GRA Version – Kaplan 4:13 "He made the letter Resh king over Peace And He bound a crown to it And He combined one with another And with them He formed Saturn in

2184-410: Is perhaps not surprising, that in the course of time, to be known as a "Chaldaean" carried with it frequently the suspicion of charlatanry and of more or less willful deception. One of the more famous examples of Roman literature concerning astrology is the poem Astronomica , written in the first century CE by Marcus Manilius . Hellenistic astrology was practiced from the 2nd century BCE until around

Planets in exaltation operate on the spirit or soul level in which people are connected with their higher selves and their guides. Planets in exaltation become successful by recognition and honor. When a planet is opposite its exaltation sign it

2392-558: Is said to be the place where it “rejoiced” or had its “joys”. Each planet has a specific joy in a house that, in Hellenistic tradition, has a different name. Rather than calling and assigning the names of these houses to the signs, ancient astrologers referred to them as traditional names like the “Place of God” for the 9th house. The other houses have names such as “Goddess'' (3rd house), “Good Spirit” (11th house), ”Good Fortune” (5th house), ”Bad Fortune” (6th house), “Helm” (1st house), etc. It

2496-590: Is some negative aspect of this which says that they can be arrogant, self-centered, and attention seekers. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) are known to be grounded, stable, dependable, and practical. People sometimes say they are dull and materialistic. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are great communicators, intellectual, social, and idealistic. The negative to them is that they are cold and impractical. Finally water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are considered to be all feelings. Often called sensitive, emotional, nurturing and intuitive. The misused part of them

2600-414: Is that they can often let their emotions become too strong, they are often thought to be the ones who get most addicted to drugs and alcohol. Each characteristic influences chart rulership because modern astrology uses the elements to specifically interpret the astrological chart and its rulership. With the information learned by chart rulership, a dispositor tree can be much better understood. A dispositor

2704-604: Is the Imum Coeli (or IC) and is the Private Entrance which is only used by those closest to us, such as close friends and family. The ascendant planet is also known as the rising planet or rising sign which describes the sign's degree on the eastern horizon at the time and location of birth. As the Ascendant represents our first impressions of the world, the sign on the Ascendant displays how we expect to interact with and experience

2808-476: Is the first fire sign, followed by Taurus as an Earth, Gemini which is an air sign and finally Cancer called a water sign. This continues to go on until reaching the last astrological sign of Pisces. Along with the elements words are also used to describe the signs. Fire signs are hot, dry, ardent. Earth signs are heavy, cold, dry. Air signs are light, hot, wet. Water signs are cold, wet and soft. The elements help chart rulership in several ways. This specific rulership

2912-434: Is the god of seeds, crops, husbandry, and the harvest (agriculture), leader of the titans, father and founder of civilizations, social order, and conformity. The glyph is shaped like a scythe, but it is known as the "crescent below the cross", whereas Jupiter's glyph is the "crescent above the cross". Famous rings of the planet Saturn that enclose and surround it, reflect the idea of human limits. Saturn takes 29.5 years to orbit

3016-450: Is the goddess of love and beauty, famous for the passions she could stir among the gods. Her cults may represent the religiously legitimate charm and seduction of the divine by mortals, in contrast to the formal, contractual relations between most members of Rome's official pantheon and the state, and the unofficial, illicit manipulation of divine forces through magic. Venus orbits the Sun in 225 days, spending about 18.75 days in each sign of

3120-638: Is the messenger of the gods, noted for his speed and swiftness. In astrology, Mercury represents the principles of communication, mentality, thinking patterns, rationality/reasoning, adaptability and variability. Mercury governs schooling and education, the immediate environment of neighbors, siblings and cousins, transport over short distances, messages and forms of communication such as post, email and telephone, newspapers, journalism and writing, information gathering skills and physical dexterity. The 1st-century poet Marcus Manilius described Mercury as an inconstant, vivacious and curious planet. In medicine, Mercury

3224-467: Is the planet of day-to-day expression and relationships. Mercury's action is to take things apart and put them back together again. It is an opportunistic planet, decidedly unemotional and curious. In Chinese astrology, Mercury represents water , the fourth element. Venus ( [REDACTED] ) is the ruling planet of Libra ♎️ and Taurus ♉️ and is exalted in Pisces ♓️. In classical Roman mythology, Venus

Mars is the Roman god of war and bloodshed, whose symbol is a spear and shield. Both the soil of Mars and the hemoglobin of human blood are rich in iron and because of this they share its distinct deep red color. He was second in importance only to Jupiter and Saturn, due to Mars being

3432-590: Is the ruling planet of Leo ♌️ and is exalted in Aries ♈️. In classical Greek mythology, the Sun was represented by the Titans Hyperion and Helios (Roman Sol , and later by Apollo or Helios , the god of light). The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System, around which the Earth and other planets revolve and provides us with heat and light. The arc that the Sun travels in every year, rising and setting in

3536-446: Is used to weigh the strength, effectiveness and integrity of the planets in a chart. In modern astrology, the elements are used to describe personality based on one's chart. There are characteristics that modern astrologers associate with chart rulership and sign identification. The fire element which consist of the signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are described as fiery, passionate, spontaneous, competitive, confident and creative. There

3640-495: Is usually the fourth-brightest object in the sky (after the Sun, the Moon and Venus). Sagittarius is home to colossal red supergiants such as KW Sagittarii , VX Sagittarii , and GCIRS 7 , all of which are roughly the size of Jupiter's orbit. In astrology, Jupiter is associated with the principles of growth, expansion, adventures, healing, prosperity, good fortune, and miracles. Jupiter governs long distance and foreign travel, big business and wealth, higher education, religion, and

3744-412: Is worth noting that in Hellenistic astrology there are some remaining houses which don't relate directly to joys because no planets reside in them. The connection of the joy and the name of the houses provides information on the dates and the determination of how they were used by Hellenistic astrologers. Many forms of modern astrology borrow this house system. These planetary or astrological houses affect

3848-524: The Monomoiria , or individual degrees of a horoscope. This complex system of astrology was developed to such an extent that later traditions made few fundamental changes to the core of the system, and many of the same components of horoscopic astrology that were developed during the Hellenistic period are still in use by astrologers in modern times. Several Hellenistic astrologers ascribe its creation to

3952-669: The Persians , so there is likely to have been some Mesopotamian influence on Egyptian astrology. Arguing in favor of this, Barton gives an example of what appears to be Mesopotamian influence on the zodiac, which included two signs – the Balance and the Scorpion , as evidenced in the Dendera Zodiac (in the Greek version the Balance was known as the Scorpion's Claws). After the occupation by Alexander

4056-467: The Sun , or Sol , as benign and favorable. In medicine, the Sun is associated with the heart, circulatory system, and the thymus. Additionally, humans depend on the sun to produce and obtain vitamin D ; an important supplement aiding the body's immune system and bone health. In Ayurveda , it rules over life-force ( praan-shakti ), governs bile temperament ( pitta ), stomach, bones and eyes. In modern astrology,

4160-526: The choleric humor. It was associated with fever, accidents, trauma, pain and surgery. In modern astrology, Mars is the primary native ruler of the first house. Traditionally however, Mars ruled both the third and tenth houses, and had its joy in the sixth house. While Venus tends to the overall relationship atmosphere, Mars is the passionate impulse and action, the masculine aspect, discipline, willpower and stamina. Mars rules over Tuesday and in Romance languages

4264-493: The natal chart of the individual, as derived from the position of the planets and stars at the time of birth, represents the most significant contribution and shift of emphasis that was made during the Hellenistic tradition of astrology. This new form of astrology quickly spread across the ancient world into Europe, and the Middle East. Additionally, some authors such as Vettius Valens and Paulus Alexandrinus took into account

4368-722: The sanguine humor. In modern astrology, Jupiter is the primary native ruler of the ninth house, but traditionally, Jupiter was assigned to both the second and ninth houses: the house of values and the house of beliefs, respectively, and had its joy in the second house of good luck. Jupiter rules over Thursday, and in Romance languages, the name for Thursday often comes from Jupiter (e.g., joi in Romanian, jeudi in French, jueves in Spanish, and giovedì in Italian). Dante Alighieri associated Jupiter with

4472-517: The zodiac . Uranus, as the fastest outer planet, takes 84 years to complete a cycle around the Sun and spends about 7 years in each sign. Despite the modern use of outer planets as ruling planets, a case can often be made for still using classic rulers in place of or alongside these modern rulers. Many astrologers will recommend investigating both planets as chart rulers if you fall into one of these signs with some going so far as to recommend co-rulership by both if you cannot determine one's strength over

4576-400: The "extra-Saturnian" planets to be "impersonal" or generational planets, meaning their effects are felt more across whole generations of society. Their effects in individuals depend upon how strongly they feature in that individual's birth-chart. The following are their characteristics as accepted by most astrologers. Uranus ( [REDACTED] ) is the modern ruling planet of Aquarius ♒️ and

4680-515: The 1st century BCE, the Dendera Zodiac. According to Firmicus Maternus (4th century), the system of horoscopic astrology was given early on to an Egyptian pharaoh named Nechepso and his priest Petosiris. The Hermetic texts were also put together during this period and Clement of Alexandria , writing in the Roman era , demonstrates the degree to which astrologers were expected to have knowledge of

4784-639: The 2nd century BCE list predictions relating to the positions of planets in zodiac signs at the time of the rising of certain decans, particularly Sothis. Particularly important in the development of horoscopic astrology was the astrologer and astronomer Ptolemy , who lived in Alexandria in Egypt. Ptolemy's work the Tetrabiblos laid the basis of the Western astrological tradition. The earliest Zodiac found in Egypt dates to

4888-512: The 6th or 7th century CE. This type of astrology is commonly referred to as "Hellenistic astrology" because it was developed in the late Hellenistic period, although it continued to be practiced for several centuries after the end of what historians usually classify as the Hellenistic era. The origins of much of the astrology that would later develop in Asia , Europe and the Middle East are found among

4992-454: The Earth quickly which is why they have a stronger and more immediate personal effect. The outer planets take longer to orbit the Sun and represent an overarching theme within someones life. Since these planets take longer to cycle, their effect can last over generations. For example, Saturn is the slowest planet within the inner planet group as it completes a cycle around the Sun every 29.5 years. It spends an approximate 2.46 years in each sign of

5096-459: The East was marked by its complexity, with different forms of astrology emerging. By the 1st century BCE two varieties of astrology were in existence, one that required the reading of horoscopes in order to establish precise details about the past, present and future, the other being theurgic, meaning literally 'god-work', and emphasised the soul's ascent to the stars. While they were not mutually exclusive,

5200-613: The Front Door, or the place we go when we go out into the world to interact with other individuals. Contrary to the Ascendant is the Descendant. Known as the Back Door, the Descendant is where we receive visits from those we know. The door to the roof, the Midheaven (or MC), is the most visible place of the house and is the place where we desire to impress the general world. The hidden, secret door,

5304-564: The Great in 332 BCE, Egypt came under Greek rule and influence. The city of Alexandria was founded by Alexander after the conquest and during the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE, the scholars of Alexandria were prolific writers. It was in 'Alexandrian Egypt' that Babylonian astrology was mixed with the Egyptian tradition of Decanic astrology to create Horoscopic astrology . This contained the Babylonian zodiac with its system of planetary exaltations,

5408-473: The Hellenistic tradition and indeed they are one of the major defining factors which separate Hellenistic astrology and other forms of horoscopic astrology from Babylonian astrology and other traditions in different parts of the world. This system of horoscopic astrology was then passed to another mythical figure named Asclepius to whom some of the Hermetic writings are addressed. According to Firmicus Maternus ,

5512-586: The Moon is more commonly associated with the phlegmatic humor; it ruled the animal spirits. In modern astrology, the Moon is the primary native ruler of the fourth house, but traditionally it had its joy in the third house. The Moon or Luna is associated with Monday, the word Monday comes from the Old English word for Moon day or Moon's day, and in Romance languages, the name for Monday comes from luna (e.g., luni in Romanian, lundi in French, lunes in Spanish and lunedi in Italian). Dante Alighieri associated

In Indian astrology , the Moon is called Chandra or Soma and represents the mind, queenship and mother. Mercury ( [REDACTED] ) is the ruling planet of Gemini ♊️ and Virgo ♍️ and is exalted in Virgo ♍️. In classical Roman mythology, Mercury

5720-589: The Ptolemaic planets and their influence on people born "under their reign" appear in block book form, so-called "planet books" or Planetenbücher . This genre is attested in numerous manuscripts beginning in the mid 15th century in the Alemannic German area; it remained popular throughout the German Renaissance , exerting great iconographical influence far into the 17th century. These books usually list

5824-410: The Sun is the primary native ruler of the fifth house, but traditionally it had its joy in the ninth house. The Sun sign is composed of 30 degrees (0-29), which make up the circle. The Sun rules over Sunday. Dante Alighieri associated the Sun with the liberal art of music. In Chinese astrology , the Sun represents Yang , the active, assertive masculine life principle. Mars ( [REDACTED] )

5928-432: The Sun, as well as their speeds. As astrology became more simplified over time, rulerships were established by the planets’ and the signs’ shared commonalities. Today's more modern use of the term “rulership” is a system of affinities; meaning that the ruling planets are often similar to the astrological sign they rule rather than an essential dignity. When viewing a chart, angles are still significant. This aspect represents

6032-774: The Sun, spending about 2.46 years in each sign of the zodiac. During ancient Roman society, the Romans worshipped Saturn as the highest ranking and most important god among their pantheon of deities, sharing that same prestige with Jupiter. It concerns

6136-505: The Sun. Following that is the Sun, then Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The astrological descriptions attached to the seven classical planets have been preserved since ancient times. Astrologers call the seven classical planets "the seven personal and social planets", because they are said to represent the basic human drives of every individual. The personal planets are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. The social or transpersonal planets are Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter and Saturn are often called

6240-585: The Universe Friday in the Year The left nostril in the Soul, male and female." Western astrology appraises Saturn as the primary native ruler of the tenth house. Saturn rules over Saturday, which was named after the deity Saturn. Dante Alighieri associated Saturn with

6344-504: The Western astrological tradition. The planets in Hindu astrology are known as the Navagraha (literally "nine planets"), with the addition of two shadow bodies Rahu and Ketu . Planets in astrology#Uranus In astrology , planets have a meaning different from the astronomical understanding of what a planet is . 6552-413: The ancient Babylonians and their system of celestial omens that began to be compiled around the middle of the 2nd millennium BCE . This system later spread either directly or indirectly through the Babylonians to other areas such as China and Greece where it merged with preexisting indigenous forms of astrology. It came to Greece initially as early as the middle of the 4th century BCE, and then around

6656-436: The collective or transcendental planets. Indian and Chinese astrologers have tended to retain the ancient seven-planet system. Meanings have had to be assigned to them by modern astrologers, usually according to the major events that occurred in the world at the time of their discovery. As these astrologers are usually Western, the social and historical events they describe have an inevitable Western emphasis. Astrologers consider

6760-455: The concept of Nakshatra , Navagraha , and Saptarishi . Jupiter ( [REDACTED] ) is the traditional ruling planet of Sagittarius ♐️ and Pisces ♓️. It is exalted in Cancer ♋️. In classical Roman mythology, Jupiter is the sky god, ruler of the gods, and their guardian and protector; his symbol is the thunderbolt. The Romans believed that Jupiter granted them supremacy because they had honored him more than any other people had. Jupiter

6864-605: The conscious ego , the self and its expression, personal power, pride and authority, leadership qualities and the principles of creativity, spontaneity, health and vitality, the sum of which is named the "life force". Sun influences traits like power and self-esteem. One of the first recorded references to Sun worship is from the Mesopotamian Religion and described in the Epic of Gilgamesh . The 1st-century poet Marcus Manilius in his epic, 8000-verse poem, Astronomica , described

6968-460: The decans in the night were used to divide the night into 'hours'. The rising of a constellation just before sunrise (its heliacal rising) was considered the last hour of the night. Over the course of the year, each constellation rose just before sunrise for ten days. When they became part of the astrology of the Hellenistic Age , each decan was associated with ten degrees of the zodiac. Texts from

7072-466: The deposition of 25–30% of the atmosphere into slabs of CO 2 ice (dry ice). Antares is the brightest star in Scorpio and is a red supergiant star. Its red coloration is comparable to that of Mars, hence its name coming from a Greek form of "anti-Mars". If Antares replaced the Sun, its surface would extend past the orbit of Mars. In astrology, Mars is associated with aggression, confrontation, masculinity,

7176-431: The desire for pleasure, comfort and ease. It governs romantic relations, sex (the origin of the words 'venery' and 'venereal'), marriage and business partnerships, the arts and fashion. The 1st-century poet Marcus Manilius described Venus as generous and fecund and the lesser benefic . The planet Venus in medicine is associated with the reproductive system, lumbar region, the veins, parathyroids, throat and kidneys. Venus

7280-461: The emperor Tiberius had had his destiny predicted for him at birth, and so surrounded himself with astrologers such as Thrasyllus of Mendes . According to Ammianus Marcellinus there are people who "neither appear in public nor eat nor eat a meal nor think they can with due caution take a bath, until they have critically examined the calendar ( ephemeris )". Claudius , on the other hand favored augury and banned astrologers from Rome altogether. It

7384-456: The façade that we present to the world, which is how other people perceive us. In most house systems, as there are the Angular, Succedent, and Cadent houses. 7488-579: The first of the "transpersonal" or "transcendent" planets as they represent a transition from the inner personal planets to the outer modern, impersonal planets. The following is a list of the planets and their associated characteristics. The Moon ( [REDACTED] ) is the ruling planet of Cancer ♋️ and is exalted in Taurus ♉️. In classical Roman mythology, the Moon was Luna , at times identified with Diana (Artemis and Selene in Greek Mythology). The Moon

7592-571: The fixed stars over the course of the year(s). To the Ancient Greeks who learned from the Babylonians, the earliest astronomers/astrologers, this group consisted of the five planets visible to the naked eye and excluded Earth , plus the Sun and Moon . Although the Greek term planet applied mostly to the five 'wandering stars', the ancients included the Sun and Moon as the Sacred 7 Luminaires/7 Heavens (sometimes referred to as "Lights", ) making

7696-540: The former sought information about the life, while the latter was concerned with personal transformation, where astrology served as a form of dialogue with the divine.
